Trey Gowdy made a cryptic suggestion in an interview on Fox News Tuesday night about the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton and said there were more “entanglements” with the Department of Justice and the Clintons than most Americans realize.
Gowdy stated that Comey’s decision to hold a news conference last July regarding the Hillary Clinton email investigation was in response to the meeting between Bill Clinton and former AG Loretta Lynch on an airport tarmac in Arizona just days before. Gowdy said that the general public knew that Lynch met with Clinton on the tarmac, but that Comey has access to other classified information that the public does not know.
“History will be a whole lot kinder to Comey than the Democrats were at the time!” said Comey.
Watch the video at the Daily Caller. MacCullum attempted to pin Gowdy down on exactly what he meant, and asked him if he was suggesting the former director had no choice. “No, I think he had access to information and he wanted to safeguard the integrity of the investigation, and the integrity of the process, and I probably just ought to leave it right there,” he told her, adding that he thought Comey wanted the public to have confidence in the investigation as well as the outcome.
Gowdy also said that Comey made the only decision he could have made.
“He wanted to safeguard the integrity of the investigation, the integrity of the process, and I probably ought to just leave it right there,” Gowdy replied. “I only take away from that that you are suggesting that there were more entanglements between the Clintons and perhaps the Justice Department than everyone understands,” McCallum said. “You’re very perceptive,” Gowdy replied. When we find out what everyone knew and when they knew it, I do believe that America will see what was some of the worst corruption of her history. It is an incredible entangled web.
