Democrats have been vocal with their displeasure over Trump hiring his daughter Ivanka to work in the White House. Yet, they might want to spend a little more time keeping their own houses in order. It looks like the daughter of Maxine Waters, one of Trump’s biggest critics in D.C., has some things to explain about her working relationship with her mother…
One of the aspects of Maxine Water’s long political career is that for a representative of a district with very high unemployment she is not much of an advocate for job-creation. Waters represents California’s 43rd District. This district has an unemployment rate of 11.3%, which is 115% higher than the 4.5% national unemployment average. Yet Waters rarely if ever speaks on the need for job-creation. She has criticized President Obama for his ‘indifference’ on the creation of jobs in the Black community. She has even made the farcical suggestion of a ‘trillion dollars or more’ jobs program on Meet the Press.
But one would be hard-pressed to find anything concrete Waters has done to create jobs or help others create jobs as a member of the House of Representatives. She has however created at least one job – and it’s a very well-paying one. According to The Washington Free Beacon:
Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) is slated to pay her daughter another $108,000 for running a lucrative campaign operation that pulls in hundreds of thousands of dollars each election cycle, FEC filings show. Karen Waters, the daughter of Rep. Waters, collected nearly $650,000 to date for running the operation for her mother’s campaign. Karen is in charge of a “slate mailer” operation for Citizens for Waters, Rep. Waters’ federal campaign committee. Slate mailers, or endorsement mailers, involve a candidate or political group paying for the endorsement of another politician.
Interestingly, Maxine Waters has been a critic of Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, apparently for not preventing women for being harassed at Fox News. As discussed here, these mailers are essentially part of a pay-for-play scheme in which Maxine sells her political endorsement to the highest bidder. Newly elected California senator Kamala Harris for example has paid Citizens for Waters $30,000 to appear on one of the group’s endorsement mailers. All in all, Maxine will now have paid her daughter Karen over $750,000 to essentially mail stuff. That is a significantly higher salary per annum than the $44K median household income of the people in CA-43 that Congresswoman Waters is paid to represent.
