Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer finally admitted to something everyone else has known since November- the Russia and former FBI Director James Comey were not to blame for Hillary Clinton’s stunning 2016 defeat. Rather, Hillary Clinton lost because the Democrats failed to put forward exciting and engaging platforms.
Schumer said in an interview with the Washington Post on Saturday:
“When you lose to somebody who has 40 percent popularity, you don’t blame other things – [James] Comey, Russia – you blame yourself.”
“So what did we do wrong? People didn’t know what we stood for, just that we were against Trump. And still believe that.”
Wow, finally some serious introspection from a top Democrat. I never thought I’d see the day. In May Hillary Clinton blamed Russian interference for her loss:
“I was on the way to winning until the combination of Jim Comey’s letter on October 28 and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me, but got scared off.”
The Democrats’ platform in 2016 consisted almost entirely of criticizing and demonizing Trump- which for some reason many voters did not find very compelling.
Schumer said that the Democrats’ new branding for 2018 will put forward a more positive front with his slogan “A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, Better Future”
He continued saying its an expression that “everyone will use- a better deal for workers, a better deal for women, a better deal for prescription-drug buyers.”
Hmmmm…I’m not sure about that one, Chuck, but hey at least they figured out Trump-bashing isn’t going to win them any elections.
